As the Chairperson of the HelpAge Advocacy Network Uganda (HANU), it gives me great pride to present our first Annual Report for 2023/2024. This year marks a significant milestone in our journey to champion the rights, dignity, and well-being of older persons across Uganda. The launch of HANU was a direct response to the growing need for a unified approach in addressing the challenges faced by older persons, particularly in healthcare, economic empowerment, and social protection.
In our first year, we focused on building strong partnerships, advocating for age-friendly policies, and implementing programs that directly impact older persons. The International Day for Older Persons was a key highlight of our efforts, where we launched our Strategic Plan for 2024-2028. This plan sets out a clear roadmap for promoting the rights of older persons and ensuring their access to essential services, such as healthcare and financial support.
Our commitment to ensuring older persons can age with dignity is unwavering. Through collaboration with our member organizations, the Ugandan government, and international partners, we have laid a solid foundation for future growth. We are determined to continue advocating for older persons’ rights, building capacity within our network, and creating a more inclusive society where older persons are celebrated and supported.
