HANU’s core involvement is the protection of the human rights of older persons in Uganda. Through legal campaigns and awareness programs, HANU helps to ensure that older persons are treated with dignity and respect. This includes fighting against abuse, discrimination, and neglect of older persons. The impact of this advocacy fosters an environment where older persons are empowered, and their rights protected. HANU’s involvement in the International Day for Older Persons across Uganda plays a critical role in shaping the future of aged care in the country. By launching strategic plans, our efforts highlight the importance of continuous support and advocacy for older persons to secure their rights and improve their quality of life.
HANU’s advocacy efforts during the IDOP include promoting access to quality healthcare services for older persons. This involves integrating geriatric care into local health systems and ensuring that older persons can access treatments for age-related conditions such as non-communicable diseases. These improvements are crucial in ensuring healthy aging and reducing the health risks associated with aging.
HANU is dedicated to ensuring older persons have access to affordable, age-appropriate healthcare services. We advocate for policy changes, capacity building, and community-driven initiatives to promote health and well-being among older persons.
HANU is committed to reducing the digital divide for older persons. By building their capacity and providing education on digital technologies, we empower them to connect with loved ones, access essential services such as e-health,e-agricalture, e-commerce, and participate in the digital economy.
Our approach is targeted capacity-building workshops and training programs to strengthen the skills of member organizations in areas such as advocacy, service delivery, fundraising, and organizational management. Peer Learning and Knowledge Sharing: Create opportunities for member organizations to share best practices and lessons learned through regular peer exchange sessions, webinars, and conferences. Technical Support: Provide technical support to member organizations, including guidance on program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and act management.
HANU is dedicated to creating an evidence-based foundation for advocacy, policy development, and program implementation. By conducting research on ageing issues and sharing knowledge with all key stakeholders, we ensure that the voices and needs of older persons are represented in decision-making processes.
Our Approach is based on:
Collaborative Research: Partner with academic institutions, research organizations, and international bodies to conduct comprehensive studies.
Engaging Older Persons: Use participatory methods to involve older persons in identifying priorities and challenges.
Data-Driven and Evidence based Advocacy: Use quantitative and qualitative data to influence policy and programming decisions.
