Enhancing Long-Term Care and Community - Based Care for Older Persons in Uganda
PERIOD: JANUARY, 2023 – Ongoing
About the project:
The HelpAge Advocacy Network Uganda (HANU) is proud to launch a new initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of older persons in Uganda. The *”Enhancing Long-Term Care and Community-Based Care for Better Health of Older Persons in Uganda”* project will integrate long-term care into community healthcare systems, strengthen the capacity of caregivers and Village Health Teams (VHTs), and promote sustainable healthcare solutions in *Wakiso, Kampala, and Mukono districts*.
As part of this initiative, *Project Entry and Stakeholder Engagement Meetings* will be held in January 2025 to bring together key stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, and civil society organizations. These meetings will align objectives, define roles, and foster collaboration to ensure the project’s success.
Through this project, HANU will work closely with *older persons, caregivers, local government, and healthcare professionals* to develop inclusive and sustainable care models that respond to the unique needs of Uganda’s ageing population. Activities will include *training VHTs, conducting community awareness campaigns, implementing home-based care services, and strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders*.
By promoting integrated, community-based care, HANU aims to ensure that older persons live with dignity, access essential healthcare services, and receive the support they need.
